Note from blogmaster: If you met Jack Turnbull, you might have a hard time reconciling the man you met with his amazing words of wisdom. He is a kidder, and sometimes mischevious to point of almost meaness but in that heart beats the soul of a wise man. Here is another great article by Jack, over at actorsite.com, the best resource for a struggling actor or actress in Hollywood.
"...I will give the very best acting I could possibly give
every single time I am in front of the camera and I will
live in peace and harmony."---Bruce Lee

Setting Goals.
====================
Those of you who have been reading this newsletter for some
time know how much I emphasize list making and setting goals.
Look, setting goals isn't easy, everybody knows that. And
one of the toughest things to do for most people is to
actually sit down and write goals out.
I have an 8 1/2 x 11-inch sheet of paper at home that has a
variety of goals listed on it: Personal goals, business goals,
creative goals, artistic goals, simple achievement goals, travel
goals, family goals.
I try to go over these at least once per day and update them
at least once per week. I keep it on the fridge.
Then in my pocket, I have a post-it note with two goals,
a creative goal, and a fitness goal (I'm challenged with
fitness, so I have to remind myself EVERY DAY). I change
these every time I lose the post-it.
Will doing this help me accomplish these goals?
The truth is, you just don't know. But I DO know that
if you're NOT working on this kind of stuff, that SURELY
will NOT help you get anywhere, and the pain of this (NOT
doing something), for me -- is FAR worse than the pain of
trying something and then failing, so it really doesn't
matter.
Like Bruce Lee said, "A goal is not always meant to be
reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at."
I do know, burning these goals into my head like this,
keeps me focused, and that's important if you
want to accomplish ANYTHING at all, isn't it?
Of course we know about our fellow members and visitors who are great
at goal setting, but what about some others who have found success?
For instance, Jim Carrey.
When Jim was a dirt-broke stand-up comedian living in L.A.,
before he became an actor, he decided he was going to write
a check to himself for future services rendered.
He wrote himself a check for some amount between 10 and $12
Million Dollars, and then he carried this check inside his
wallet for years, working his way through the
stand-up acts to TV, until he finally got his check for his
first movie, Ace Ventura.
How much was that check for?
Rumor has it... for $12 Million.
And then there was famous football coach, Lou Holtz
Lou had just lost his job as an assistant football coach at
a small school in the South. His wife was was 8 months
pregnant with their third child, and after reading 'The
Magic of Thinking Big' by David Schwartz, Lou decided to
start thinking big, and he wrote down some of these big
thoughts -- 107 of them in fact.
Goals from having dinner at the White House to appearing on
the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, to meeting the Pope,
coaching at Notre Dame, leading his team to a national
championship, and shooting a hole in one.
Since 1969, Lou Holtz has achieved 81 of these goals, which is an
EXCELLENT winning percentage.
And finally, there was Bruce Lee
Next time you're in the Planet Hollywood in New York City,
check out the letter hanging on the wall that Bruce Lee
wrote to himself. It's stamped 'secret' and it's dated
January 9, 1970. What's Bruce's goal? Only this: "By 1980
I will be the best known oriental movie star in the United
States and will have secured $10 million dollars."
He continues with, "And in return I will give the very best
acting I could possibly give every single time I am in
front of the camera and I will live in peace and harmony."
Lee understood how important it is to also know what you
are going to give in return for what you achieve.
Now it's your turn -- what are your goals and what are you
going to do to accomplish them? Let me know by posting here:

All the best,
Jack
